How to set up a VPN on Android: a step-by-step guide
How to install a VPN on an Android phone or tablet β which apps fit each protocol and how to import the configuration.
How the connection works
On Android a VPN also runs through a client app. After payment you receive the configuration in three formats β a file, a QR code and a vless link. The app depends on the protocol you want to use.
Apps for each protocol
- WireGuard and AmneziaWG β the AmneziaVPN app: it supports both protocols and imports from a file or a QR code.
- VLESS Reality and Hysteria2 β a v2ray client such as v2RayTun or Hiddify: they accept a vless link.
The apps are available on Google Play; if the store is unavailable, they can be installed from an APK on the developer official site.
Step-by-step connection
- Install the app you need from Google Play.
- Open the protocol and its configuration in your account.
- Import the configuration: scan the QR code, open the file or paste the vless link.
- Tap "Connect" and confirm the Android request to create a VPN connection.
If something does not work
Check that no other VPN is running β Android also keeps one profile active at a time. If the connection is up but sites are not reachable, switch to an anti-DPI protocol or change the server location.
Fiery VPN provides the configuration in all three formats and all four protocols in one subscription β setup on Android takes a couple of minutes.
